summer signature scent

Scent is one of the most powerful things–it’s one of the reasons I love food so much! Certain smells can trigger memories, change your mood, and make a place feel like home.  There’s nothing like coming home, lighting a candle, and feeling the stress of the day melt away. Though I’m not much of a “perfume wearer”, I recently discovered You by Glossier, and I couldn’t love the scent more. And two of my best friends did too. The most interesting part? It smells different on different people! Wild, right? This month, we’re chatting about all things perfume. Read on for excellent resources on signature scents and the power of memory and scent…

Do you remember your first perfume? I remember dragging my mom to Sephora and smelling everything in the perfume aisle and choosing my very first perfume: RALPH by Ralph Lauren. Caroline shares five perfumes and the chronological milestones and memories the scents represent. Such a nostalgic read.

One of my favorite recurring features from The Cut is called scent memories. The power of smell is so strong but also so individualized! I love reading about smell associations of other people, but I couldn’t agree more with Venus Williams: happiness most certainly smells like donuts.

I’m one of those weird people who love the smell of sunscreen. Summer is by far my most favorite time of the year, and there’s nothing that reminds me more of summer than sunscreen.  If you’re not so into sunscreen, but still love the smell of the summer, Man Repeller has a candle for you.  I may or may not have already purchased Sea Salt by Jonathan Adler thanks to this piece.

Maybe you’re a seasoned perfume-pro and looking for something new.  Or perhaps you change your scent with the weather (I’ve always wanted to try that!). Whether you’re a pro or a newbie, Bustle is sharing 15 new perfumes to try for warm weather.  What would you choose of these?

Though I don’t necessarily believe personality is quite as fixed as personality assessments make it seem, I do love funny articles about Myers-Briggs personality traits.  Have you taken the quiz? If you know your MBTI 4-letter combination, Hello Giggles can help you pick out your new signature scent.  Mine was oddly accurate, and I’d love to hear what you think of yours!

Do you have a signature scent? Or a particular scent-triggered memory? Tell us in the comments!

The best way to understand Genue is to try it!
