Links We Love: September Edition

As the summer season is starting to wind down, here at Genue we’re embracing all things warm and cozy. And what could be more homey and warm than unique, handcrafted, wooden artifacts? Read on below to see a roundup of our favorite hand-selected wood objects and artists…

Norway Artist To Watch: Stian Korntved Ruud is artist based in Oslo, Nowary and we cannot get over how gorgeous his hand-carved spoon project is—Ruud’s goal in the project “is to challenge and explore a spoons aesthetic and functional qualities” by repeating the creation of his spoon every day for 365 days. How incredible!

Creative Cookies: We know it might be a little bit early to be thinking about holiday cookies even though we’re barely on the brink of fall, but a bit of planning ahead may score you the most original cookies at a holiday swap or your next company potluck. Cookie Mold features hand carved cookie presses that allow you to create a custom, unique design you can imprint onto any kind of cookies. Monograms for a wedding shower, a cute snowman for a holiday gathering… the possibilities are endless!

Woodsy Storage Décor: We love the addition of a wooden crate to channel some seriously woodsy, cozy vibes in a room—be it to hold books or blankets.  The Crate People specialize in designing custom wooden crates for unique décor additions to any space—be it a custom shelving unit in a living room, creative bar cart, or a unique and storage-filled desk!

100% Handmade Wooden Artifacts: Alexander Devol, the woodworker behind Wooden & Woven, not only creates both functional and aesthetically pleasing artifacts from wood, his appreciation for all things handmade has us rethinking the kinds of goods we want to use and curate in our homes. Devol, on all things being handmade, says: “I find there is an inherent comfort and pride that comes from making things, but also in living with objects which have been made with care and time. When I drink coffee from hand made pottery I like to think of the clay as it was being thrown, I imagine the maker, the workshop, the mug taking shape.  When I drink from a paper cup I think of nothing.” We couldn’t agree more.

A Wicker(d) Good Gift Idea: Teresa of WickerRoadGifts’ uses pyrography to give her gifts and home accents an extra special flair.  Pyrography is the art or technique of decorating wood or leather by burning a design on the surface with a heated metallic point, and we couldn’t love the result more! Her wooden spoons would make a great gift for mother’s day, a blossoming chef or as a unique housewarming present! Check out her Etsy shop to see more of her goods!

The best way to understand Genue is to try it!
