Genue Dictionary

How It Works

ABC Text
This is used to insert text onto the canvas.
Back
Brings user to the previous screen and from the canvas will bring user back to the landing page for starting a new project
BG
BG sets the image to background.
Camera
The Camera is for taking photos using device camera and works according to specifications of the hardware.
Clear
Content is cleared from the image editor screen to start again.
Color
The color tools allow you to pick specific colors to create your design–from changing the entire background color, to picking a color for your freehand drawing, to filling in shapes.
Background Color
User tapping on Background icon sets the current selected color as the background color for canvas. Default background color is set White.
Color
The color wheel provides a RGB slider for selecting exact colors as per user’s specifications. When the Color wheel appears it is initialized to the default color of black. When touching the color wheel circle the chosen color will display on the large thumbnail to the right.
Color Picker
The Color Picker function allows users to choose a color from an image. This is helpful for color matching and when trying to edit an image when the color attributes are not known.
Color Wheel
The Color Wheel provides a RGB slider for selecting exact colors as per user’s specifications. When the color wheel appears, it initialize to the default color of black. When touching the color wheel circle, the chosen color will display on the large thumbnail to the right. Below the color wheel are sliders for Red, Green, Blue, and Opacity with RGB, CYMK, and Hex Values below that.
Fill Shape
This function fills the shapes with chosen color or patterns selected by the user. To fill with color – select the color from color wheel and then select the shape- watch for highlighted edge and tap on fill shape button. The same process for filling with pattern, only the user must select a pattern line thumbnail from pattern line shelve.
Create New Design
Tapping on Create New Design asks user to enter Project Name. Type a project name and press ‘ok’. This creates a new project and opens the next landing page.
Crop
Crop function is available for symmetrical cropping and cropping image to preset dimensions. Open image editor- select fx- crop function is located at bottom right of device screen.
Design
When user first opens an editor, the Design toolbar will be displayed by default on the second row of screen. While editor is in use, Design modes will be hidden unless Design tab is touched. The options for designing are: from left to right are the icons for Freehand, Seamless Tiling, Pattern Line, Reflection modes: Vertical, Horizontal, Diagonal, and Quad, Same Direction modes: Vertical, Horizontal, Diagonal, and Quad, Shape, Pattern Book, and ABC which is for incorporating text.
Eraser
Selecting Eraser tool and then touch screen where erasing needs to be applied. Moving slider determines the width of the erasing stroke. The user can reset to original image or touch undo or redo for step changes when erasing. Background image button is used to erase images set to background. Foreground image button is used to erase images set to foreground .
Freehand
This option allows user to create freehand drawing on the canvas with the selected color and brush width. When Freehand is selected, stroking within canvas results in a line following user’s touch direction. With Freehand user can use his finger or computer stylus as a pencil and draw freehand lines.
Gallery
Genue Gallery saves the images created within the Genue App and also functions as a way to save works in progress for future editing and changes. In the Genue Gallery the image will have an “x” placed in top left hand corner so that the user can delete images at any time.
Image Collage
This option is used to import either single or multiple images into the editor. Within Collage, images can be moved by touching edges and dragging into place. They can be removed by double tapping on an image. Images may also be made smaller by pinching/contracting or made larger by pinching then expanding fingers while touching image.
Image Editor
Pressing the Image editor button allows for importing images from Camera, Gallery, and Genue Gallery and for editing them. The imported image can be further edited before it is placed on the main canvas. There are various filters that can be applied to the image here.
Image filters
Images are transformed based on function of the image filters, or “effects”. They can be used to enhance and alter images uploaded into Genue.
Auto Trace Effect
The ‘Auto Trace’ effect can be found under the ‘FX’ button, and can be used to enhance images to give them a black-and-white “traced ” effecct. The transparency of the image can be altered with the slider bar. Select ‘Done’ in the top right of the screen when finished, and finalize it by tapping the check mark.
Hue Effect
The ‘Hue’ effect can be found under the ‘FX’ button, and can be used to enhance and change the color of images. The transparency of the image can be altered with the slider bar. Select ‘Done’ in the top right of the screen when finished, and finalize it by tapping the check mark.
Pinch Effect
The ‘Pinch’ effect can be found under the ‘FX’ button, and can be used to enhance the image and give them a “pinched in ” effect. The transparency of the image can be altered with the slider bar. Select ‘Done’ in the top right of the screen when finished, and finalize it by tapping the check mark.
Tint Effect
The ‘Tint’ effect can be found under the ‘FX’ button, and can be used to enhance images and give them either a warm or cool “tint “. The transparency of the image can be altered with the slider bar. Select ‘Done’ in the top right of the screen when finished, and finalize it by tapping the check mark.
Grayscale Effect
The ‘Grayscale’ effect can be found under the ‘FX’ button, and can be used to enhance images and give them a black-and-white ‘grayscale’ effect. The transparency of the image can be altered with the slider bar. Select ‘Done’ in the top right of the screen when finished, and finalize it by tapping the check mark.
Filter Effect
The ‘Filter’ effect can be found under the ‘FX’ button, and can be used to enhance images and give them a unique ‘filter’ effect. The transparency of the image can be altered with the slider bar. Select ‘Done’ in the top right of the screen when finished, and finalize it by tapping the check mark.
Mono Effect
The ‘Mono’ effect can be found under the ‘FX’ button, and can be used to enhance images and give them a sepia-tone effect to varying degrees using the slider bar. The transparency of the image can be altered with the slider bar. Select ‘Done’ in the top right of the screen when finished, and finalize it by tapping the check mark.
Emboss Effect
The ‘Emboss’ effect can be found under the ‘FX’ button, and can be used to enhance images and give them a raised ’embossed’ effect to varying degrees using the slider bar. The transparency of the image can be altered with the slider bar. Select ‘Done’ in the top right of the screen when finished, and finalize it by tapping the check mark.
Toon Effect
The ‘Toon’ effect can be found under the ‘FX’ button, and can be used to enhance images and give them a sharp black outline, to varying degrees using the slider bar. The transparency of the image can be altered with the slider bar. Select ‘Done’ in the top right of the screen when finished, and finalize it by tapping the check mark.
Sobel Effect
The ‘Sobel’ effect can be found under the ‘FX’ button, and can be used to enhance images using a sobel generator to create an overlayed and repeated design, controlled by the slider bar. The transparency of the image can be altered with the slider bar. Select ‘Done’ in the top right of the screen when finished, and finalize it by tapping the check mark.
Erosion Effect
The ‘Erosion’ effect can be found under the ‘FX’ button, and can be used to enhance images using a filter that removes the color from the images. The transparency of the image can be altered with the slider bar. Select ‘Done’ in the top right of the screen when finished, and finalize it by tapping the check mark.
Posterize Effect
The ‘Posterize’ effect can be found under the ‘FX’ button, and can be used to enhance images and give them a ‘posterized’ filter that brightens the colors. The transparency of the image can be altered with the slider bar. Select ‘Done’ in the top right of the screen when finished, and finalize it by tapping the check mark.
Line
It is use to draw straight line in different direction.
Mirror Modes
There are several different types of Mirror Modes that provide either mirroring or same direction repeats when drawing on the canvas.
Diagonal Mirror Mode
Anything drawn anywhere on the canvas is automatically mirrored on the other part diagonally.
Horizontal Mirror Mode
Mirror is along X axis so the canvas is divided into Top and Bottom panes. Anything drawn on either side is automatically mirrored on the other part horizontally in opposite direction.
Quad Mirror Mode
The canvas is divided/mirrored both horizontally and vertically at the same time, effectively providing for equal mirrored parts. It reflects draw lines in mirror mode in all 4 quadrants in opposite directions.
Vertical Mirror Mode
Mirror is along X axis so the canvas is divided in to Left and Right panes. Anything drawn on either side is automatically mirrored on the other part.
Pattern Book
This provides access to the gallery of resources that have been imported to the project. Pattern Book stores the saved designs created in image editor as a single tile for editing and repeating. It will automatically save to Pattern Line as well. The graphic below depicts all Patterns in shelve that have been saved to Pattern Book. To return to design creating- press Design tab and toolset for Designing as well as Pattern Book will be displayed.
Pattern Line
This is same as freehand but instead of plotting solid lines this option allows the user to define custom patterns to be used for plotting/drawing lines. Patterned Line is created by a design from category options or by capturing/tracing whole or part image of a design already in Editor and saving. Pattern Line is the storage file for saved pattern designs that are displayed as lines for drawing, to design patterns, and for designing patterns within patterns.
Pattern Repeat
Pattern Repeat brings user to a screen where repeats of the image are rotated according to user selection. These choices are located at the bottom of the image editor and are denoted by: RRRR. At the top of the image editor in this view is a slider called Matrix. Moving this slider will change the scale of your pattern by how many times the image repeats. To the right is a background on/off toggle. If user turns background toggle off the image can be saved without a background color or pattern. This is useful when user wants to overlay a pattern on a surface without seeing the default color of a white rectangle image.
Random Pattern
Patterns are randomly generated by pressing any of the pattern buttons. New patterns are then created from user’s designs or image selection accessed from the editor screen.
Redo
Redo applies the last stroke/step.
Reset
Brings user to the last saved instance of the project.
Seamless Patterning
Takes an image and cuts the image into four equal parts while rotating image so that when placed in quadrants the image will “seamlessly” join when shown in a repeating pattern.
Shapes
The shape tools allow you to place various shapes on the canvas, ranging from unfilled, to colored, to randomized dimensions.
Circle
User can draw multiple circles with filled with selected color.
Circular Pattern
Select the Pattern Repeat button and the Circular Pattern button is on the right. When tapped, this takes the image in editor and puts it in a circular pattern.
Empty Circle
Empty circles are drawn when button is selected. The outline color or pattern outline is determined by pattern line selected or color thumbnail currently displayed. Circle may be made larger or smaller by pressing +/ – button. They may also be filled with color by using fill shape option.
Empty Random Circle
Outlines of empty circles vary in color and dimension when this button is selected.
Empty Random Rectangle
Outlines of empty rectangles vary in color and dimension when this button is selected.
Empty Rectangle
Empty rectangles are drawn when button is selected. The outline color or pattern outline is determined by pattern line selected or color thumbnail currently displayed. Rectangle may be made larger or smaller by pressing +/ – button. They may also be filled with color by using fill shape option.
Random Filled Circle
Multiple circles of different radius filled by different colors appear when user touches screen.
Rectangle
This is used to get already filled rectangle with color selected.
Share
Share button brings up choices for sharing saved images to social media and to access the Featured Designer Submission form. To connect to the Genue website: https://www.mygenue.com return to the Project-Launch Canvas or Landing page.
Undo
Undo reverts to previous stroke/step.
