Gorgeous Gifting with Paper

In the midst of the holiday season, I have been thinking a lot about paper: cards, gift-wrap, envelopes, etc. Since I mainly work with textiles, I occasionally forget all the amazing things pattern can do for paper products. But as I plan my gifts for family and friends, I find myself coming up with all kinds of fun ideas for the stationary that goes with it!  Here are a few ways to use paper to make your gift all the more personal:

Handmade Card: Of course, one of the most fun ways you can use your design skills to make a present that much more special is to create a beautiful card. Whenever I go to the store to buy a card, I don’t always see so many with nice patterns on them. That’s why it’s so nice to be able to make them yourself. It adds a bit of a unique twist! I just love making cards for friends and family- you can really do just about anything and make it really personal. A pattern design can be soft and elegant, or silly and fun. A handmade patterned card is definitely something that a loved one will save and love to look at.

Custom Gift Wrap: This can be a little bit time-consuming depending on the method you use, but it is so much fun. For really close friends and family, I sometimes like to doodle some personalized wrapping paper if I am giving someone a gift I feel is really special. Another great option is to create a unique design in Genue and print some wrapping paper! Usually, I’ll include a motif that is unique to the gift receiver–maybe it references an inside joke we share or a nice memory. It’s so nice to just sit down and draw something beautiful and personal-and even nicer to know you’ve created something amazing for someone you care about!

Personalized Gift Tags: Sometimes the idea of creating wrapping paper is too daunting, so instead I’ll make a cute patterned tag and pop it on top–the result is always so adorable! You can draw up a beautiful ditsy floral or a sweet polka dot. All of these look fantastic. And as with the gift wrap, you can create a design in Genue and print these. You could even print a lot so that each and every gift you gift has a little something extra. This is probably the easiest way to bring a little bit of your design skills into personalizing a gift.
